Transcription Project

As I progresses in my project. i went from a more of photographic way. the art work i am transcribing in from the national gallery and it is called the Venus and Mars.
This image is seen below.
This is what the national gallery wrote about this image.
Mars, God of War, was one of the lovers of Venus, Goddess of Love. Here Mars is asleep and unarmed, while Venus is awake and alert. The meaning of the picture is that love conquers war, or love conquers all.

This work was probably a piece of bedroom furniture, perhaps a bedhead or piece of wainscoting, most probably the 'spalliera' or backboard from a chest or day bed. The wasps ('vespe' in Italian) at the top right suggest a link with the Vespucci family, though they may be no more than a symbol of the stings of love.

A lost Classical painting of the marriage of Alexander and Roxana was described by the 2nd-century Greek writer, Lucian. It showed cupids playing with Alexander's spear and armour. Botticelli's satyrs may refer to this. Mars is sleeping the 'little death' which comes after making love, and not even atrumpet in his ear will wake him. The little satyrs have stolen his lance - a joke to show that he is now disarmed.

But i gave my self some of the different meaning that i feel about it.so these are some of the word i felt it meant.
  •  Sexual
  •  Layout
  •  Beauty
  • Weak/Strong
  • Darkness
  • Shape
I developed my own idea with photos and Photoshop.
These are some of my final piece as i have 5 images as my final piece these are only 2 of them.
Both of these images have there own dark meaning behind them, but i will tell you a little about them.
this one above is of the man being stronger then the women and the women has been blurred out to create a effect of her being scared.

this one is more about the women and the giving of strength as well as the taking of strenght this relates back to the "Mars, God of War, was one of the lovers of Venus, Goddess of Love. Here Mars is asleep and unarmed, while Venus is awake and alert. The meaning of the picture is that love conquers war, or love conquers all. " this is her taking back the strength.

V & A gallery

V & A GALLERY VISIT
There are many different artist and designer within the gallery as the gallery is very larger i did not view all of the work on that day.But i saw some work that was interesting and these are some of them.Would you call these images a product or an art piece.

They used artist from different country and periods of time.As you see there are products and art works so the gallery is more of a museum of art. In this gallery you learn more about how art has progresses through the years. i learnt from the V & A gallery to develop my opinion is to develop and progresses my work as well improve ideas and materials i would uses.By visiting the gallery you learnt from other artist work example would be material you could work with or means behind the art work.
The images above show different kind of art and media to can uses as this can develop your own idea and thought processes.
V&A Website click here
The website shows some information but i would think it would show all of the art work used in the gallery only some that would interest people.

Saatchi Gallery

My opinion of Saatchi Gallery art work

I viewed some work within the saatchi gallery on Wednesday 12th September.
I learnt how artist and designers think and the difference between them.but one of the art piece within the Saatchi gallery interested me the most was Richard Wilson work.(picture shown below)

these are image of his work. when looking at his work i think about what it could mean, to me it means. (words listed below)
  • Pollution
  • Environment
  • Reflect
  • Danger
  • Deception
  • Disorientation
these are only some of the words that i think relates to this piece.
comment on what you feel about this artist work and why or what it means

I feel he design a room what can no longer be used. As the room has been polluted by oil. I think this is an example of the environment and what we have done or going to do. As well the reflection of the oil is the reflection we have to take to better the world.( having to stop and look back on what we have done) An toxic example of the environment on danger.

Also in the Saatchi gallery the is a range of chess set that are interesting as they use the one VS one or one on one theme example below.
this is One VS Another. Straight VS Curly hair.
these are two or many chess set's. if you want to view them most of them are on the top floor.
the objects uses are chosen by how affective they are over another object.
these piece of art work bring are more question as such thinking as an artist and thinking as an designer.
the most simple answer would be designer solve other people problems and a artist work is to create there own product. this is how i feel anyway many people may see different it would be nice to hear other peoples views.

Over all review the art is very interesting and many inspiring work are in the gallery. I learnt that any artist even if you don't understand there or why you like it can develop your work and understand of others.
their are other art work that i was interested in and hear are some of them. see below.
These three are my favours but the others are very interesting and shows different kinds or art and different formats of art. ( seen above )
These interest me because of the materials they are made out of and how they have been displayed. where its been placed helps to develop the piece example the chair develops its background to blend into it.
These works are showing different media /material that are used in Art and Design.

There are more artist works in the gallery and they change their exhibit once in a every so often.
( Spelling will be check later)

The National Gallery - Metamorphosis Exhibit

I learnt that artists can look at other artists work and reflect on the narrative and general idea or theme to create their own unique piece. They can change the media the work is in or make a more modern opinion or theme of the work they are reflecting on.

This was learnt when i went to the Metamorphosis Exhibit and reviewed Chris Ofili, Conrad Shawcross and Mark Wallinger works. (11 July-23 September)

The work i went to see will be on the national gallery website - Metamorphosis Exhibit
10/09/2012- Metamorphosis exhibit
Diana and Actaeon

1556-9 (an old painting that has been transcript into a new piece by

Mark Wallnger)

Diana
Mark Wallnger

Chris Ofili, Conrad Shawcross and Mark Wallinger art work at the exhibit are mostly the reflection and transcription of an other artist.

This top image is a painting called Diana and Actaeon. The artist Mark Wallinger used the narrative of a peeping tom that has been shown in the original image. By looking at the narrative he creates his own piece by making a more modern day version of a peeping tom.

What i have learnt from the Exhibit?

I learnt from the paintings that you can take the meaning and make the classical meaning more modern, as well making a his own work using the same classical meaning that has been developed through time. As shown through his work and by comparing the two images given. The painting has been twisted to suit the other artist reflection/ transcription of the work. The images more than one meaning but the artist chose the one meaning he wanted to continue in to his art work.he even take to dark theme colours and use it as the box is black but inside is easy to see.
